WORKS
This painting depicts a mother relocating to inhabit a better living situation for herself and her escuincle (kid). Though the mask provides disguise and power, she remains keeping trucha along the way. This painting is heavily inspired by my family. Mi ama came to the United States as an adolescent. Unaware of the adversity and dangers she would have to face, she made a home here in Los Angeles and had a couple of escuinclas along the way. This painting is for our matriarchs and families who risked everything and put their miedo (fear) to the side to provide more opportunities for themselves and their loved ones.
