Classroom Echoes: Beyond the Numbers
Imagine dropping your kid off at school and never being able to see them again, seeing on the news that your child is in danger due to an active shooter and being worried that your kid was one of the ones whose lives got taken. Maybe saying "have a good day" to your partner and finding out you'll never see them again. Or hugging your mom after spending a Sunday afternoon together not knowing that when she went to school the next day that it would be her last. There is a problem in this country that time after time goes overlooked, nothing is done and incidents continue to occur. "Classroom Echoes: Beyond the Numbers" is about honoring those lives lost due to School Shootings and remembering that they are more than just a statistic, that they are real people. This piece is meant to bring awareness to these incidents in hopes that CHANGE will be made in the near future.
It is a 3 part installation;
PART 1 - On a wall listing YEAR - School name - # of Casualties
PART 2- A desk with red flowers to represent blood shed in the school setting
PART 3 - A composition notebook listing out the YEAR - School name/location - Names of the victims
(disclaimer* this does not include shooting that happened where no one lost their lives, there are many incidents where an active shooter was on campus but no lives were lost, although this should also be brought to the forefront of the conversation. This piece is meant to honor those whose lives were taken Due to these tragedies.)
